With ROOTS LAPROKAY explores the invisible roots of human identity. The work does not focus on origin as a geographical location, but on the people, relationships and experiences that shape our personalities.

Three figures move together through an abstracted space – two adults and a child, all with their backs turned towards the viewer. Their posture appears calm and resolute, yet pensive at the same time. Their hands clasped behind their backs symbolise trust, protection and a sense of connection. Although the figures are walking the same path, each retains their own posture and individuality – a symbol of the fact that every person follows their own path in life whilst sharing common roots.

Typical of LAPROKAY, figurative elements and geometric abstraction merge to create a distinctive visual language. Cubist-inspired, simplified forms, delicate lines and textured surfaces lend the work depth without detracting from its tranquillity. The deliberate use of shades of turquoise, blue and green creates a harmonious atmosphere, whilst areas of bright light and striking shadows lend the figures a sense of three-dimensionality and presence.

The red construction lines, a recurring design element in the artist’s work, are reminiscent of invisible lifelines. They connect the past and the present and reveal that every person is part of a larger whole.

ROOTS is a quiet reflection on family, memory and belonging. The painting invites us to reflect on our own roots – on the people and values that have shaped us and continue to guide us to this day. It is precisely through its restraint that the work unfolds a moving emotional power and leaves room for each viewer’s personal interpretation.
